The Bahamas does not tax its citizens and residents on income. There are no income, capital, gifts or death taxes in the Bahamas. The country collects its taxes indirectly from import duties, stamp duties, property taxes and the like. This system is of benefit to some persons.

The Government of the Bahamas provides Permanent Residency status to persons of good standing who demonstrate that they intend to reside in the Bahamas. A major factor in demonstrating an intention to reside in the Bahamas has been stated by the Government to be the purchase of residential property with a value in excess of $500,000.
